Commercial license, renewal
TRANSPORTATION – Amends existing law to provide for the electronic renewal of commercial driver’s licenses and to provide for the sharing of residency information between the Idaho State Tax Commission and the Idaho Transportation Department.

RS29919C1 / H0009

Consistent with the Governor’s Red Tape Reduction Act this proposed legislation will allow CDL licensees to renew their credentials online, an option that is already available for certain non-CDL drivers. It also clarifies that the Idaho State Tax Commission can share residency information with the Idaho Transportation Department for the purposes of driver licensing, which is a federal requirement for CDL renewals. This change will provide additional customer convenience by assisting the trucking industry in the efficient credentialing of its drivers, reducing unnecessary traffic in local county DMV offices.

This legislation will have no impact on the state’s General fund or any dedicated fund or federal fund, because the programmatic changes are already in place to allow for CDL online renewals.
