Grand theft
THEFT – Amends existing law to revise provisions regarding the monetary threshold for grand theft.

Idaho Code 18-2407 covers the grading of theft into separate categories: grand and petit. This legislation would amend Idaho Code 18-2407(1)(B)(i) by making a partial inflationary adjustment- $1000 to $1800- to the dollar threshold triggering felony liability. This threshold has not been adjusted in a quarter century.
This legislation will (a) update part of what the legislature considers to be a 'serious' theft and (b) protect victims of theft by increasing the number of thieves who can get jobs and make their restitution payments.
This legislation will have no impact on the General Fund.
