Medicaid eligibility, postpartum
PUBLIC ASSISTANCE – Amends and adds to existing law to modify eligibility requirements for CHIP Plan B and Medicaid and to provide for a state plan amendment extending Medicaid benefits for pregnant women for twelve months postpartum.

Over a third of women in Idaho do not have health insurance prior to pregnancy and do not have access to health coverage beyond 60 days postpartum. This legislation will improve health access for pregnant/postpartum women and infants and ensure 12 months postpartum health coverage for women.

The estimated fiscal impact annually to the state general fund is $6,278,526.00 annually once fully implemented, with a federal match of $28,731,135 for a total of $35,009,661.00. It will likely be lower in be lower in the first fiscal year as it won’t be fully implemented until federally approved.
