State board of ed, elected members
EDUCATION – Amends existing law to provide for State Board of Education member elections.

RS30234 / H0204

This legislation establishes that members of the State Board of Education be elected by region rather than appointed by the Governor. It also makes the elected Superintendent of Public Instruction the Chair of the State Board of Education.

This legislation provides an annual stipend of $12,000 per board member resulting in a fiscal impact to the General Fund of $84,000. The extra expenses for clerks to manage elections should be minimal.
