Initiatives, signature gatherers
INITIATIVES AND REFERENDA – Amends and adds to existing law to provide for the registration and training of signature gatherers for initiative and referendum petitions.

This legislation is intended to protect the integrity of the initiative and referendum process by requiring paid signature gatherers to register with the Secretary of State. The legislation also includes a requirement that signature gatherers must complete a training administered by the Secretary of State.
There is an expected fiscal impact of $50,000 per year from the General Fund for the Secretary of State to administer this requirement. There is no anticipated fiscal impact to local government.
