SPECIAL INQUIRY JUDGE PROCEEDINGS – Amends existing law to revise provisions regarding a special inquiry judge proceeding and the authority of the Attorney General.

RS30862 / H0427

This legislation allows the Attorney General to request a special inquiry proceeding from the judiciary to investigate crime and corruption. The purpose of this legislation is to equip the Attorney General, who has jurisdiction to investigate elected county officials, with a tool already used by county prosecuting attorneys to investigate crime and corruption.

This bill will have no discernible impact on the state general fund, any other state fund, or local funds. The Attorney General can cover these special inquiry proceedings using existing staff and the pay for the magistrate needed to run the special inquiry proceeding is already budgeted.
