PUBLIC UTILITIES – Adds to existing law to prohibit public utilities from requiring the disclosure of social security numbers as a condition of receiving any product, commodity, or service provided by the public utility.

This legislation protects consumer privacy and data by prohibiting public utilities from requiring customers to divulge their social security numbers as a condition of receiving service.

This legislation causes no additional expenditure of funds at the state or local level of government, nor does it cause an increase or decrease in revenue for state or local government, therefore the legislation has no fiscal impact.
