This is the FY 2024 original appropriation bill for the Health Education Programs. It appropriates a total of $27,215,100 and caps the number of authorized full-time equivalent positions at 44.65. This bill provides support for four distinct medical education programs including the Washington-Idaho-Montana-Utah (WIMU) Veterinary Education Program based at the University of Idaho; the WWAMI Medical Education Program based at the University of Idaho in collaboration with the University of Washington; the Idaho Dental Education Program (IDEP) based at Idaho State University in collaboration with Creighton University in Omaha, NE; and the University of Utah Medical Education Program. This bill also provides support for four distinct medical residency programs including the Family Medicine Residencies based in Boise, Coeur d'Alene, and Pocatello; Boise Internal Medicine Residency Program; the Boise Psychiatry Residency Program in collaboration with the University of Washington; and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Residency Programs based in Idaho Falls).
The bill funds five line items, which provides $332,300 for prior year contract inflation with the University of Utah and Washington State University, $96,000 for a new internal medicine resident and enhanced funding for current residents at the Boise Internal Medicine Residency Program; $240,000 for four new residents at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center Residency Program; 2.00 FTP and $168,000 for two new residents and enhanced funding for current residents at Idaho State University's Family Medicine Residency Program; and $320,000 for three new residents and enhanced funding for current residents at the Family Medicine Residency Programs based in Boise, Caldwell, Coeur d'Alene, and the Magic Valley
