State budget requests
STATE BUDGETS – Amends existing law to revise a provision regarding the preparation and filing of a budget request.

RS31021 / S1312

This legislation creates parity and consistency for budget deadlines in all three branches of government. Currently, only executive branch agencies are required to meet a September 1st deadline to submit budget requests. Aligning the deadlines for all budgets, with limited exceptions, will create efficiency in budget preparation and review for budget development. There is no specific penalty for not meeting this requirement since it is understood that all branches of government are required to follow statutes.

No additional funds are required because agencies, courts, and the legislature are already required to submit budget requests. This simply creates a requirement to meet a consistent deadline.
