PERSI, reemployment
PERSI – Amends existing law to provide for the reemployment of certain retired members under certain circumstances.

RS31240 / S1315

This legislation is to repeal language in Section 59-1356 Idaho Code that deals with first responders and the conditions under which they could retire and then return to work within 30 days with no break in service. S 1054 passed in the 2023 session allowing first responders 50 years of age and older to retire, then return to work within 30 days while continuing to receive PERSI retirement benefits. The practical application of that effort has proved to be contrary to the intent. This legislation simply repeals the language in S 1054 from the 2023 session.

There will be no direct fiscal impact, but over time PERSI rates and members should benefit with lower rates which helps all employers and employees who contribute to this program.
